Yearlong Silver Jubilee Celebration of Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College Starts with Flamboyance

The yearlong Silver Jubilee celebration of Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College started on 21st August, 2024 with a marathon, named as "Run for Durgapur, Greener Tomorrow". Almost five hundreds of young boys and girls participated in this Marathon. The lengths of the run were 14 km for men and 5 km for women. This Road - Run was flagged off by Smt. Anindita Mukherjee, Chairperson of Durgapur Municipal Corporation and Dr. Sanjay S. Pawar, Principal, BCREC in the presence of Dr. Satyajit Bose and Mr. Tarun Bhattacharya the President and General Secretary of Dr. B. C. Roy Society respectively and other society members. In the Road - Run the first position from men was won by Abhishek Kumar and the first position from the women was won by Anjali Kumari. Both were given twenty five thousand rupees and certificates and mementos by the Silver Jubilee Organising Committee. In all twenty prizes were given to both men and women participants. Prizes were handed over to the winners by Arjun Awardees - Saraswati Saha (Sprinter), Bhagirath Samai (Shooter)

Rahamathulla Mollah (Commonwealth bronze medal winner) and Calcutta Police Chief Coach Benod Roy, Mr. Kamal Kumar Mitra, State Secretary of West Bengal Atheletic Association along with other dignitaries.

In the afternoon another session was held at Srijani Hall of Durgapur where Padmabhusan Dr. Nambi Narayanan , former Director of ISRO and the Chief Guest of the programme and Dr. Pratapsinh Kakasaheb Deshai, the President of Indian Society for Technical Education,the Guest of Honour of the programme were present along with Mr. Pradip Majumdar, Minister - in - Charge, Panchayet and Rural Development and Co - Operation, WB, Narendranath Chakraborty, MLA, Pandabeswar, Swami Somatmananda, Dr. Binoy K. Dutta, Former Professor of IIT, Kharagpur and the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr. Saikat Moitra, Former Vice Chancellor of MAKAUT and other society members and dignitaries. Mr. Tarun Bhattacharya, the General Secretary of the society remembered those who supported BCREC in its successful journey to 25 years of age and declared that Dr. B. C. Roy Society would set up a world class university in Durgapur very soon which was appreciated by all present in the programme.

After the brief speech of Dr. P. K. Deshai Dr. Nambi Narayanan described the journey of Indian Space Research from B2 to VIKAS Engine. He remembered the contribution of scientists Bhabha, Vikram Saravai and Satish Dhawan in the development of India 's space research.
