The annual Tech Fest, *Horizon 2k25* at Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College great fanfare by Dr. Gautam Chottopadhyay, Senior Scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California. The inauguration was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University.
In a special moment, the IEEE MTTS - Students Chapter office was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Chottopadhyay and Dr. Gupta. After this inauguration a presentation was displayed by Nikita Sing, Chairperson of IEEE Students Branch of BCREC encapsulating the activities of the branch. A memento was handed over by Dr. Chottopadhyay to Antarik Mondal, Chairperson of the IEEE Chapter.
Afterwards, both dignitaries were honored with Uttarios and mementos by Mr. Tarun Bhattacharya, General Secretary and President of Dr. B. C. Roy Society. Mr. Jernail Singh, Treasurer of the Society, also presented flower bouquets to the honored guests at Dulal Mitra Auditorium.
The highlight of the event was the keynote addresses by Dr. Chottopadhyay and Dr. Gupta, held at the Dulal Mitra Auditorium. The event began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Sanjay S. Pawar, Principal of BCREC. Dr. Saikat Moitra spoke eloquently about the institute's objective to bring luminaries from diverse fields to mark the Silver Jubilee Celebration.
Dr. Gupta's address, titled "Doyens of Communication from Kolkata: A Tribute," in which he explained how pioneering scientists from Kolkata such as Jagadish Chandra Bose, Dr. Meghnad Saha, Dr. C. V. Raman, and Manilal Bhowmik, laid the foundations for modern communication and space research.
Dr. Chottopadhyay's speech, "Space Exploration and Our Place in the Universe," captivated the audience. He illustrated the vastness of the universe with an image of Earth, captured by Voyager 1, depicting our planet as a mere dot with which he emphasized the humility of human being. He said that there are 400 billion stars in our galaxy and NASA's quest to answer fundamental questions. Dr. Chottopadhyay also spoke about NASA's plans to send a satellite to Europa, Jupiter's moon, to explore its potential for life, given its Earth-like climate. He shared insights into his own invention - Whatsup - for detecting water on other planets, which has been accepted by NASA.
The deliberations were interactive and enthralling, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.
Additionally, the IEEE MTTS Students Chapter inauguration ceremony featured Dr. Glauco Fontgallard, MGA Vice Chair, IEEE MTTS, and Dr. Chinmoy Saha, Chair, IEEE MTT-S Region 10 and Associate Professor of IISST.
