Message from HOD

Warm and Green Greetings from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur.

Mechanical Engineering Department, established in the year 2003, produces graduates who can meet the needs of rapidly changing industry which demands new skills and knowledge of modern technology. The Department offers B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering and M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering. Vision of the Department is to deliver world-class education and research in Mechanical Engineering, with particular regard to their application in industry, healthcare and commerce in a diverse society. The Department has a conducive ambience and specialized laboratories like CAD-CAM & Robotics Lab, Mechatronics and Modern control Lab, etc along with conventional laboratories like Mechanical Workshops, Thermal lab, Dynamics of Machines Lab, etc. The infrastructure fully supports experiments as prescribed in MAKAUT curriculum. Separate Computer Laboratory was established for teaching computer aided design and analysis of devices using various software like AutoCAD, Creo, ANSYS etc. The department is facilitated with high speed internet connection for acquiring knowledge from the web. Undergraduate students get opportunity to involve themselves in high-end research work to build skills beyond curriculum. In addition to classes, the Department organizes regular visiting lectures delivered by Industry Experts and arranges industrial visits for both faculty and students. Postgraduate scholars are engaged in high-end research and publication activities. The Department has been simply unstoppable in its progress as it has been actively involved in various activities that have brought to light the hidden talents of the ME students and staff.

Our department is the stronghold of highly qualified and industry-experienced faculties having their degrees from IITs, NITs, IIEST, Jadavpur University and other leading universities in India. Our faculty members are continuously attending various training programs, publishing research papers, books and innovative projects.

We are striving hard continuously to improve upon the quality of education and to maintain its position of leadership in engineering and technology. Our guiding philosophy at BCREC has been that ‘hands-on learning’ or ‘learning by doing’ trumps all other forms of learning.  It is fair to say that this philosophy has served us well in making all the students exposed to our methods take a quantum leap in better appreciating, understanding, learning and applying the engineering concepts and impart technical know-how to students, promote

their problem solving skills and innovation of new technologies. In the process our students have realized that learning can be easy, enriching and fun. Department also offers large number of interdisciplinary courses for providing cross cutting knowledge to the students to pursue their interest. We are sure that going forward, their exposure to our pedagogy will serve them well in all their academic and professional pursuits and careers. Recruiters always want to see in their employees, quality to show uniqueness in creativity and flexibility to blend in a team. Placement record of Mechanical Engineering Students in various organizations supports their quality of excellence. Students of this department are placed in leading Industries including Government organizations. We are happy to share that some of our students are pursuing higher studies in leading universities in India and abroad. I am certain that our students will prove to be an invaluable asset to an organization.

DEVELOPMENT OF A LOW COST AUTOMATED NUT-GRAM SOAKING MACHINE DR ARIJIT BANERJEE Indian Patent Office 27-10-2023 Published India 202331058634 The nut-grams are bought from the market very in the very first step. The nut-grams are stored in a container containing two compartments. The compartment 1 of the container 1 stores the nut-grams before the starting of the automatic soaking of the nutgrams. One microcontroller unit is used to control the flow of nut-grams from the compartment 1 to compartment 2 by getting the feedback from a level sensor attached with the compartment 2 of the container 1. The rack-pinion arrangement is made to adjust the translational movement of the lid connecting the two compartments. When the compartment 2 is filed with the nut-grams, the microcontroller sends the signal to another rack-pinion to open the lid connected with the compartment 2 of the container 1 with a strainer bucket attached with the container 2.An aquatic pump is then made on by another microcontroller unit to flow the water into the container 2. The container 2 mixes the water with the nut-grams and the stepper motor is used to spin the mixture to make the nutgrams soaked. After some predefined time, the waste water of the process is drained out to the drainage via microcontroller actuated pneumatic valve. The process is repeated for 3 times in order to make the nut-grams properly soaked and cleaned to eat readily. The peels after taking the soaked nit-grams may be dried and mechanically crushed using the mechanical crusher to form the laxative powder very much useful for the persons having problem with bowel movement/constipation.
