The Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College (BCREC), Durgapur, hosts CIACON 2025 – International Conference on Computing, Intelligence and Application. The conference was inaugurated on 18th July 2025 at the Dulal Mitra Auditorium, BCREC campus. The conference is scheduled for 18th and 19th July, 2025.
The conference was inaugurated on 18th July by the Chief Guest of the programme Prof. Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar, Former Director IIT, Delhi and Emeritus Professor of Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT, Bombay. Dr. Anupam Basu, Former Director, NIT, Durgapur was present in the programme as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Saikat Maitra, Chief Advisor of Dr. B. C. Roy Society, Mr. Tarun Bhattacharya, Jernail Singh, the General Secretary and Treasurer of Dr. B. C. Roy Society respectively graced the occasion being on the dais.
Prof. Susanta Roy, Treasurer, IEEE Kolkata Section, Mrs. Suparna Kar Chaudhury, Chairperson, IEEE Kolkata Section, Prof. Debashis Giri, Associate Professor, IT Department, MAKAUT, and former Chairperson, CSI Kolkata Chapter, Prof. Chandan Koner, Chairperson, IEI Durgapur Section were also present on the dais.
The prestigious conference brings together leading minds from academia, industry and research with 196 papers being presented in both online and offline modes.
Prof. Shevgaonkar said in his Keynote speech that Engineers should have societal values and use the emerging technologies like AI for the development of human life. He also said “AI is replacing human minds which is very dangerous. AI should be allowed to work as a tool to enrich the society. Technology should be green and used for sustainable development keeping in view the limited natural resources and increasing population of the world”.
Prof. Basu, said “Fruits of technological development should reach all across the sections of the society and he expressed concern that technology is affecting our interpersonal relationships. We should not let technology overcome the human empathy.”
Prof. Saikat Maitra said wishing the success of the conference that such conference is the place to exchange views between the academia, scientists and technologists to develop things for the prosperity of the society. He also said citing examples from Russia and China that diverse resources of our country should be channelized to take our country to the height of a developed country.
The conference was also addressed by Mrs. Suparna Kar Chaudhury, Prof. Debashis Giri, Prof. Susanta Roy and Prof. Chandan Koner.
The Book of conference proceedings was unveiled by Prof. Raghunath K. Shevgaonkar and Prof. Anupam Basu.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Sanjay S. Pawar and the introductory address was deliverd by Dr. Arindam Ghosh, HOD of CSE, BCREC and chair, organizing committee. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sumana Kundu, Associate Professor, CSE, BCREC.
