Today, the 3rd year students (Batch of 2026) had an insightful site visit to witness the application of Ooms Modified Bitumen Polymer, a cutting-edge technology in road construction. This visit allowed us to observe firsthand how the modified bitumen polymer enhances the durability, flexibility, and performance of asphalt pavements, making them more resistant to weather extremes and heavy traffic.

The students had the opportunity to interact with expert team led by Mr. OP Viswakarma, Alam Sir, Upadhyay Sir from Ooms, to learn about the mixing of bitumen and polymer at different units in the plant, how the quality is being maintained and laying processes, and understand the benefits of using modified bitumen in road construction. This innovative approach not only improves the quality of the roads but also contributes to sustainable infrastructure development.

A big thank you to Ooms and their team for hosting us and sharing their expertise. Thanks to one of our Alumni Shubham Kumar, who is currently working under Cube Highways, for his constant guidance and support for arranging this visit. Faculty coordinators were Dr. Arijit Kumar Banerji, Prof. Md. Hamjala Alam and Prof. Soumyadip Das, who went to the plant with the students. Visits like these are invaluable for bridging the gap between theory and practical application, providing us with a deeper understanding of advanced materials in civil engineering.
