Project Director of Mars Mission of India Attends Silver Jubilee Celebration of Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur & Explains Mars Mission
Dr.B.C.Roy Engineering College is exploring its inquisitive minds of the students to think beyond, thus educating beyond the boundaries of education as a part of its yearlong Silver Jubilee Celebrations held at Durgapur on 27th November , 2024 where none other than the leader himself Dr. Subbiah Arunan, The Project Director of Mission Mars Orbiter of ISRO addressed the august audience.
"India's Mars Mission was unique from that of NASA in several aspects" Dr. Arunan said that the cost of India's Mars Mission was only 450 crores while that of NASA's cost was 6500 crores. It was the shortest project schedule, realized in a schedule of 15 months from conceptualisation to launch whereas that of NASA took 6 years. Moreover, the spaceship of India incorporated full scale on - board autonomy in respect of deep space communication and technical problems recovery. It was also a challenge to make solar panels work in a cold temperature of minus two hundred degrees. Delta One and Quasar technology were used for the first time in the history of spaceship. Even the approach was different from the NASA to send the space craft to the Mars. India's spaceship had to cross electrically charged Van Allen Belt for 39 times without any harm. Scientific objectives of the project was exploration of Mars surface features, morphology, mineralogy and Martian atmosphere by indigenous scientific instruments.
The audience comprised of teachers from premium Schools and Colleges , students, corporates and doctors brimmed with enthusiasm after India’s successful missions in space missions like Mangalyaan , Chandrayaan etc . India’s Orbiter Mission was explained and lots of questions were answered by Dr.Subbiah during the programme. The programme was inaugurated by watering a plant symbolizing life , later Dr.Arunan was felicitated by a ceremonial stole (Uttorio) and a Memento by Shri.Tarun Bhattacharya, General Secretary and Dr.Satyajit Bose , President of Dr.B.C.Roy Society along with other dignitaries present on dais. The Introductory note was delivered by . Dr. Saikat Maitra, Chief Advisor of BCREC and former Vice Chancellor of MAKAUT. A standing ovation with claps was showered to the Legendary Project Director of The Mars Mission and the programme concluded by Dr.Sanjay S.Pawar, Principal of Dr.B.C.Roy Engineering College where he expressed that we should always dream big and the Institution is in the pipeline for becoming a self-funded multidisciplinary University.
Shri.Tarun Bhattacharya, General Secretary , Dr.Satyajit Bose , President of Dr.B.C.Roy Society ,Mrs. Mita Mitra, Vice President and Jernail Singh, Treasurer of Dr. B. C. Roy Society, respectively along with everyone present concluded the programme with The National Anthem.
