Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College (BCREC), Durgapur, achieved a major milestone today with the inauguration of laboratories for an ambitious training initiative in 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Technology in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C-DAC, Kolkata) on 7th May, 2025.
The laboratories were inaugurated by Prof. Nabarun Bhattacharya, Director, School of Information Science & Technology of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal along with Asit Kumar Singh, Chief Investigator (CI), Project, C-DAC, Kolkata, Dr. Partha Pratim Lahiri, Registrar, MAKAUT, W.B. and Prof. Saikat Maitra, Chief Advisor of Dr. B. C. Roy Society, Mr. Tarun Bhattacharya, General Secretary of Dr. B. C. Roy Society and Mr, Jernail Singh Treasurer of the Society and Dr. Sanjay S. Pawar, Principal, BCREC.
In the inaugural programme, held at Albert Einstein Hall of the college, Mr. Tarun Bhattacharya thanked C-DAC and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and MAKAUT for selecting BCREC as one of their seven such training centers spread across West Bengal and Bihar. He expressed his confidence that as BCREC successfully ran AICTE – IDEA Lab for last three years, this new 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing lab will be run with best efforts and sincerity. He said that, any student of any Engineering Institute can come to this lab and nurture their innovative ideas and covert them into prototype.
Prof. Nabarun Bhattacharya described the difference between Industry 4.0 and upcoming Industry 5.0 saying that industry 5.0 will be based on additive manufacturing process unlike the subtracting process of industry 4.0. Therefore students should be trained with this emerging technology to sustain in their professional life.
Dr. Partha Pratim Lahiri said that BCREC was selected for this project as “it is one of the pioneering engineering college of West Bengal.” He also predicted that in five years 3D printing technology will also get modified to a great extent. So it is the best opportunity for the students to start now for their future.
Prof. Saikat Maitra said “3D technology is energy efficient and helpful to protect environment from manufacturing pollution.”
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Sanjay S. Pawar, Principal, BCREC and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Mrinmoy Chakraborty, Head of the Department of ECE and the In – Charge of this C-DAC project.
